The South Rim, the more isolated North Rim, the primitive Toroweap and Marble Canyon make up the four main sections of the vast Grand Canyon National Park. The South Rim is highly visited due to its location near large areas of population. While on the otherhand, Toroweap is located away from cities and airports and access to it is via a dirt, washboard, tire ripping sixty mile road. The North Rim is surrounded by the lush Kaibab Forest. The forest, water and other factors reduce the amount of lodging that is available to North Rim guests. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is just a magnificent as the South Rim, if not more so, but it is not as easily accessed. The Grand Canyon North Rim is enhanced by extreme erosion and a faster uplift. The higher altitude results in lush alpine vegetation growth. This blog will concentrate on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and on Toroweap (Tuweap) which is often considered to be part of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
